How to Discern True Prophetic Words from Second-Heaven Deception

True prophetic words from the highest heaven bring clarity, strategies and insight from God that help His Church navigate through today’s spiritually charged atmosphere of deception and counterfeit voices.

I refer to the highest heaven here from Paul’s experience in 2 Cor.12:1-3, where he describes being taken, either in the body or out of the body, to the ‘third heaven.’ Biblical scholars consider the third heaven to be the dwelling place of the Most High God.

If there is a third heaven, then there is a first heaven and a second heaven.

It is important to understand the difference between first, second and third heaven revelation because false, counterfeit prophetic words come from the first and second heaven. They are a mixture of the human soul and demonic spirits – not the revelation that comes from the highest heaven.

It’s time to have a serious discussion about prophecy and how to discern what comes from Second Heaven and what comes from Third Heaven. One leads to fear, deception and bondage. The other leads to the strategies of heaven and the Most High God.

What is First, Second and Third Heaven.

Let’s break down the distinction between the three.

First Heaven: The realm of the ‘flesh’ the material world we live in. The natural realm of touch, sight, hearing and smell are all intrinsic to the first ‘heaven.’ The cosmic galaxy of the sun, moon, stars and planets are all first heaven.

This is the realm of the natural man. The knowledge we learn of the world around us, math, science, logic, learned skills, what we know as reality.

First heaven is not evil, it is comprised of our experiences, our education, what we understand. This falls into the category of our own understanding, which the bible instructs us not to depend on:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight,” (Prov. 3:5-6).

Second Heaven: Lucifer, and his rebellious co-conspirators were kicked out of third heaven and are now confined to first and second heaven.

“Then a war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But the dragon was not strong enough, and no longer was any place found in heaven for him and his angels. (Rev. 12:7-9).

In Jesus, we have access to the third heaven, but these rebellious spirit beings do not – because they chose in full knowledge to rebel against the Most High God.

These demonic rebels hate God’s creation with a virulence we can’t comprehend. They seek to oppress, control, deceive and destroy the saints of the Most High.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places,” (Eph. 6:12 ESV).

These are the entities who mascaurade as light who deceive believers by pretending to be messengers of God.

They are able to deceive us when we have unhealed soul wounds, unforgiveness, self-righteousness, critical judgments against others, strong dogmatic opinions, misperceptions about God, strongholds of pride, fear and unconfessed sin.

I am not saying we must be sinless to receive third heaven revelation.

However, deep seated fear, insecurity and the lack of a strong foundation in the character and nature of God gives access in the soul and spirit to receive false ‘light’ and prophesy out of second heaven, not third heaven revelation.

Third Heaven: Considered to be the dwelling place of the Most High God. The highest heavens, far above the rulers, principalities and powers in second heaven and first heaven.

“I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of it I do not know, but God knows —such a man was caught up to the third heaven,” (2 Cor. 12:1-3).

Example of Second Heaven Revelation

Recently, a dear friend of mine sent me a video and asked me to watch it at the 40-minute mark. So, I did.

What followed was a prophetic warning about “something” coming that was going to be bad. The person prophesied judgement is coming from God, and it was time to prepare. No specifics. Just get ready. It was heavy, ominous.

I do not know this person who is prophesying judgement. However, I am open to hear words from God through men and women I do not know. I trust the Holy Spirit in my brethren, and I can receive a prophetic word from someone I do not know if the One I know, Jesus, is speaking through them.

Jesus' voice I know, His character I know. Him I recognize – and when it is Him and He is warning of things to come that will be hard and challenging to walk through, I arm myself in His love and promises and prepare to face whatever is coming.

Wolves, Or Deceived Believers?

In reference to our example above – the person prophesying judgement is coming – I do not believe they purposely set out to deceive. I believe they are sincere and that they are hearing from the spirit realm – but I believe what they are receiving is coming from second heaven, not from third heaven, which is the highest throne of God’s authority.

There are wolves in sheep’s clothing who purposely set out to deceive the children of God.

Then, there are the broken, distracted, hurting, fearful children of God who are susceptible to false revelation because of unhealed wounds in their soul that taint the revelation and leave them susceptible to deception.

The apostle Paul encourages all believers to prophesy:

“Earnestly pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy,” (1Cor. 14:1).

Paul instructs believers to prophesy and those who hear their prophesies are instructed to judge carefully what they say:

“Let two or three prophets speak [as inspired by the Holy Spirit], while the rest pay attention and weigh carefully what is said,” (1Cor. 14:29 AMP).

The purpose of prophecy is edification, exhortation, and comfort of the Church, (1Cor. 14:3).

Satan Masquerades as an Angel of Light

The problem is – we have a roaring lion, a deceiver, masquerading as an angel of light – flooding the world, especially the Church, with false doctrines and false revelation (2 Cor.11:13-14).

Prophetic revelation comes from two sources in the spirit realm – Holy Spirit and Satan.

The issue is – who or what is the source we are receiving revelation from in the spirit realm – and how do we tell the difference?

Discerning First, Second & Third Heaven Revelation

First Heaven – Influence

What happens in the natural world influences how we feel about the world around us. Politics, mainstream media, Hollywood and social media all have powerful sway on our emotions and the conclusions we come to watching world events.

Ai is changing the world we live in at an alarming rate.

To all familiar with bible prophesy we see the groundwork being laid for the mark of the beast and global monitoring and control being set in place.

All of these things assault our soul and emotions and challenge our faith. We need to rise above these things with eagle’s wings to see and hear what God is doing.

When we focus on natural world events our spiritual revelation is clouded and can become a mixture of fear and our own logical conclusions based on what we see rather than true revelation from Third Heaven.

Second Heaven Revelation

Think of a power grid of electrical currents and noise. A place of confusion, shadows, whispering and screeching voices. Winds and currents of moving trends and influencing doctrines – all in a cloud of activity.

This is Second Heaven.

In Second Heaven we hear the will of the dark forces seeking to destroy all God has created. It is a place of chaos. Fear. Doom. Gloom. Foreboding.

Check into your emotions when you watch a ‘prophetic’ video or read a prophesy or hear a dream someone believes is from God – how does it make you feel?

Fearful?

Or, Empowered?

If the result is you want to escape, hide, run away. Or stock up supplies, buy guns and take shelter off the grid, it is more than likely coming from Second Heaven.

James describes the wisdom of third heaven revelation:

"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, free of hypocrisy," (James 3:17).

A Self-fulfilling Prophecy

A Second Heaven ‘revelation’ is what the darkness desires to happen. It is a prophecy of what ‘they’ want to happen. It is not God’s will – it is the devil’s will.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue – and if a devil whispering disaster is coming, even sprinkling in specifics of financial ruin, or earthquakes and volcanoes, assassinations or mayhem to come – that devil wants it to be believed and fulfilled through our own faith and agreement, thus giving ‘life’ to the desires of the beast.

I’m not saying our agreement causes disasters, but our agreement of ‘faith’ with these doom and gloom prophecies coming from Second Heaven spread fear in the Body of Christ.

When we are in fear, we are ineffective in taking out the devils who are lying to us seeking to destroy the Army of God.

Second Heaven Revelation is Satan's Will - So Stop it!

Years ago, I learned when we hear words about earthquakes, financial collapse and disasters coming, we are not to accept they are coming from God – but rather accept this is the devil’s will and go on the spiritual offense in prayer to STOP these things from happening rather than prophesy them as the Word of the Lord.

Fear is the devil’s most effective tool in taking out the Body of Christ.

The devil has been very effective in weakening the Church by filling pulpits with wolves in sheep’s clothing who align with worldly agendas and values. Pastors who shy away from talking about world events who only focus on building their own little fiefdom of tithing parishioners promising God will rapture them out of here any minute. People pleasers who tell their congregations what they want to hear.

“For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear,” (2Tim.4:3).

Leviathan – the Twisting Serpent

The devil twists the words of God and scripture. We see this clearly in the encounter in Eden between the Serpent and Eve – “Did God say?” (Gen. 3:1).

We see this again in Satan’s attempt to temp Jesus into sin. The devil quoted scripture using a Messianic promise of God in the wrong way:

“If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; for it is written, He will command his angels concerning you to guard you; And on their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone,” (Luke 4:9-11).

Satan goes after our identity as he came against Jesus’ identity as the Son of God. Jesus, knowing He is the Son of God and knowing the character of His Heavenly Father quotes scripture back to Satan:

“It is said you shall not put the Lord your God to the test,” (Luke 4:12).

Knowing the Word of God and character of God are vital in navigating through these days fraught with lies and deception.

The Later Days of Deceitful Spirits & Teaching Demons

Rebellion, lawlessness and hatred of all things God are bursting out of the darkness and onto center stage before us in technicolor. In biblical terms the wheat and the tares are growing into maturity at the same time. The difference between the two is becoming evident with each passing day.

“Now the Spirit expressly states that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons, / influenced by the hypocrisy of liars, whose consciences are seared with a hot iron,” (1Tim.4:1-2).

Test the Spirits

Our world is full of lying spiritual voices. It is imperative we test the spirits.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world,” (1 John 4:1).

Remember how James and John – who Jesus affectionately nicknamed ‘the sons of thunder’ – wanted to call down fire from heaven and burn people up?

Jesus firmly rebuked them and said,

“You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them,” (Luke 9:55-56).

The sons of thunder had no idea they were under the influence of a spirit of murder.

The spirit of murder had fertile soil in their attitudes that justified them for being on the ‘right side’ as Jesus disciples. So therefore, the opponents of Jesus were on the ‘wrong side’ and deserved to die by fire.

We need to check into the motives of our own heart. Do we look out there at ‘those guys’ and think – I can’t wait for God’s judgement to come! Strong opinions and judgements like this in our heart open the door to counterfeit spirits.

The reason God allows the wheat and tares to come to full maturity before He sends the angels out into the final harvest is because it is virtually impossible to distinguish between the two before they fully ripen into maturity.

We need revelation from the highest heaven.

Third Heaven Revelation

“The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy,”

(Rev. 19:10b).

One of the ways I know I’m hearing Jesus when I hear a teaching or prophetic word from a brother or sister in Christ is because it either confirms the things Holy Spirit has been speaking to me – or it open’s my eyes to see and understand the scripture with greater depth of revelation.

When prophecy or a word of exhortation comes from Holy Spirit my spirit resonates with empowerment and my faith is strengthened. I am empowered to do the things God has called me to do in my life. I am filled with hope or joy or even strategies and understanding that encourage me for these days we live.

Above - in Blue - is a link to spiritual lesson Jesus showed me of a person whose spirit is held captive in the Second Heaven. I was shocked by this revelation – but at the same time – it made so much sense because of the experiences I have had with this person through the years.

Jesus revealed to me it is possible to be spiritually trapped in Second Heaven due to inner belief systems that develop in the soul during abusive situations.

Abuse of every kind is registered in the subconscious mind and can result in layers of unhealed trauma being held captive in the soul, which sadly can result in locking the spirit into only receiving the negative revelations of Second Heaven.
